TheraPLACE Learning Center is Adding Music Therapy as an Additional Method to Help Children

Music Therapy LOUISVILLE, Ky. – (September 7, 2016) – TheraPLACE Learning Center is pleased to announce the addition of music therapy. Bailey Carter, clinical coordinator of the Music Therapy Clinic at the University of Louisville, is working in conjunction with TheraPLACE Learning Center to launch the new therapy. Sign-ups for sessions are now available for interested participants and the sessions will last from 30 minutes to 1 hour. The sessions are customized for a child’s need and parental preference.

Music therapy is the clinical and evidence based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic environment.  Music therapy is also fun and intrinsically motivating for children.  During therapy, the musical experience facilitates improvement in cognitive development skills, receptive and expressive language, fine and gross motor skills, self-esteem, and
creativity. For these reasons, music therapy is an excellent addition to occupational, physical, and speech therapy sessions.  It is also a great adjunctive therapy allowing music therapists to carry over goals from other therapy types.

“Because of the importance we place on a holistic approach and making therapy fun, TheraPLACE is really excited to now offer music therapy to our clients,” said Jill Cox-Woodall owner and founder of TheraPLACE Learning Center.  “We see this as an opportunity to use our child driven approach to positively impact the lives of our clients.”

Bailey Carter will be offering the Music Therapy at the TheraPLACE Learning Center Shelbyville Road location. At the upcoming Open House, Carter and interns from the University of Louisville music therapy clinic will meet with parents and children to shed some light on music therapy and how it works. Children will be able to explore guitar, piano, xylophone, and percussion instruments.
